OVERVIEW

As general contractor, Aristeo drew from our extensive wind turbine installation experience to carefully sequence the delivery of enormous equipment across 65 square miles of remote farmland to construct the largest wind park in Michigan at the time of construction. We also built access roads and expanded public intersections to accommodate this heavy equipment. Aristeo completed this venture within 100,000 manhours and an excellent safety record.

PROJECT SCOPE

Aristeo managed the entire project spanning 65 square miles to construct Michigan’s largest wind farm at the time of construction. The Polaris Wind Energy Park is a 168 MW wind park with seven 80-meter hub height and 61 89-meter wind turbine generators. It supplies 150 megawatts of energy to power approximately 60,000 Michigan homes. The blades on these turbines marked Aristeo’s largest installed blades, to-date, at 62.2 meters long. We utilized 660-ton and 300-ton class cranes for tower erection.

SCOPE, CONT.

The scope for this project included proactive logistics planning, safety management, QA/QC, project management/coordination, site work and access road installation, public intersection improvements, excavation and backfill, crane pad installation, tooling calibration and maintenance, anchor bolt assembly and alignment, embedment rings, delivery/unloading coordination, tower erection, rotor installation, and reclamation services. The team also placed nearly 30,000 cubic yards of concrete for foundations.

UNIQUE SOLUTIONS

Throughout the project, Aristeo encountered additional complications that threatened to delay the schedule, including inclement weather, high water tables and unsuitable ground conditions. However, Aristeo’s expertise, detailed project planning and collaborative relationship with DTE Energy ensured that we minimized complications and revised schedules as needed to ensure the project would remain on track.
