2023 SAFETY KICKOFF

Date: March 31, 2023

Safety Kickoff, an all-company event held every January, is a day for celebrating safety successes, reviewing lessons learned and recommitting to safety for the upcoming year. We know that safety starts long before anyone steps onto a project site, which is why our Safety Kickoff is so important.

Safety requires constant learning through continuous process improvements. As we continue to grow, we also proactively rework tasks, process flows, implement proprietary processes, like our Safe Work Bucket, and prioritize critical safety data tracking and analysis across jobsites.

A key aspect of the Safety Kickoff is celebrating our past successes. Some key reflections from 2022 include:

  • Continued to certify team members as Safety Trained Supervisors (STS). Currently, over 80 percent of our field leadership is STS Certified. This certification ensures that our eligible jobsite leadership are fully prepared and empowered to advocate for safety and proactively plan for a safe project.
  • Won multiple safety awards and improved key processes
  • Instituted a daily Stretch & Flex program to diminish strains, overexertion and soft tissue injuries, resulting in a reduction of strains and sprains
  • Improved our EMR, Total Injury Rate and DART Rate from 2021

In 2022, our team also refined our Good Catch program. This program increases reporting of unplanned events during the work shift that could have resulted in injury or property damage and incentivize positive behavior across our subcontractor and self perform teams. A Good Catch is the recognition of a circumstance that had the potential to cause property damage or injury/illness – but did not occur thanks to a corrective action and/or timely intervention.

Our Safety Committee will continue to have a strong presence in the year ahead. The cross-functional Safety Committee, led by our General Superintendents, shares information across all Aristeo trades, improves subcontractor safety and further standardizes and shares best practices. A unique differentiator of our Safety Committee is the involvement of field leadership in our monthly meetings. By including field leaders across trades in these meetings, we receive direct feedback from the field and are able to make well-informed decisions.

As we look forward to a safe year ahead, our safety team and Safety Committee will continue to stay at the forefront of safety trends, using data acquired from past years, to reach our ultimate goal of no accidents, no injuries and no incidents.
