New Merchant Power Plant
Aristeo teamed with Kvaerner Songer to construct a new peak power plant for Kinder Morgan Inc. Working an accelerated schedule over ten months, Aristeo constructed all building foundations, machine foundations, and cooling tower pits and basins for this 540-megawatt combined cycle power plant. We also excavated over 37,000 cubic yards of soil for all underground utilities. A challenge was constructing five mass generator foundations which had drastic elevation changes. We placed three heat recovery steam generator mass foundations with each pour totaling over 1,000 cubic yards of concrete. We also placed two steam turbine generator mass foundations that were 30 feet wide and tapered down to 18 feet wide. Our crew size peaked at 51 tradespeople whom were hired directly from the local union halls. Aristeo’s management and field supervisors coordinated and supervised this crew throughout the project’s duration ton place 18,700 cubic yards of concrete, install 1,100 tons of reinforcing steel, place and finish 129,000 FT2 of slab, and install nearly 4,000 anchor bolts.
