Detroit Metropolitan Airport North Terminal Redevelopment

This text is replaced by the Flash movie.

Construction is underway at Detroit Metropolitan Airport to build a new 26-gate terminal. The new North Terminal is scheduled to open in 2008. Aristeo joined the construction team to demolish the Davey Terminal and hotel, and build the foundations for the new terminal. Working in such a high security location required intense communication and coordination efforts. Demolition and excavation was performed around sensitive FAA communication lines, which had to be avoided to maintain airport operations at all times. Scheduling and coordinating eight separate work crews at one time spread out over the one mile stretch of work site added complexity to the job. We also worked straight through Michigan’s unpredictable winter months, yet maintained the aggressive schedule. Our crew size will peak at 140 tradespeople, with safety a key focus. Project highlights include:

  • 180,000 cubic yards of earthwork
  • 35,000 cubic yards of concrete & 2,400 anchor bolts
  • Underground concrete tunnels & retaining walls
  • 350,000 FT2 of concrete formwork
  • 2,000 tons of re-steel
